of low income students in our Leading to College program enroll in college.
Today, fewer low-income high school graduates are entering college than a decade ago despite predictions that 65% of jobs will require a two- or four-year degree by 2020. CAMBA’s community and school-based college access programs are working to reverse that trend—and help students throughout New York City be the first in their family to go to college. Our approach includes:
- Innovative, multi-year college access initiatives, Collegiate Express and Leading to College
- Connecting young people to college through Community Centers in NYCHA and public schools
- Subsidized jobs, academic coaching and family support to young people at the highest risk of dropping out
- Interrupting the cycle of violence that deters young people from reaching their goals
